Meet my coach

Happy Friday Leaders,

This week, I want to introduce you to my wonderful executive coach, Neil Mullen. It will be no surprise to you (as a coach myself) that I think every great leader deserves a coach, and I am blessed to have Neil by my side, helping me do some of my best thinking.

Last week, we decided to get Neil on Episode 10 of Coaching Done Well to chat about what coaching done well means to him and to reflect on our coaching relationship. If you are interested in peeking behind the curtain of the coaching process and seeing how Neil has unlocked my blockers over the last year, it’s well worth a watch:

Listen to Jim & I chat with my coach, Neil Mullen on Coaching Done Well

Here’s five other topics, Neil, Jim and I discussed in the episode:

  1. Coaching done well involves a partnership between the coach and coachee, where both parties contribute to the conversation and learn from each other.

  2. Video coaching and reflection can be powerful tools for improving teaching practices and promoting professional growth.

  3. Coaching provides a space for teachers to share their stories and be truly listened to, which is often lacking in traditional evaluation systems.

  4. Coaching done well is a transformative process that helps individuals grow and achieve their goals.

  5. There is a need for more coaching in education to support teachers and enhance student success.

I’m excited to partner my newsletter with the ICA. Check out icaSpotlight here.

Did I mentioned I am co-authoring a book? Out this summer, this is a book about change and how we need to bring decision-making back within our school walls. Huge thanks to my brilliant co-author, Efraim Lerner. If you are interested, check out work collaborative, the community for organisational development in schools, and reserve your copy:

Let me know if you would be interested in joining work collective by replying to this email. I’d also love your thoughts on the book, which is out this Summer.

Have a great weekend!

Shane
